OMEGA has helped change many people's lives

...Our team went to Africa to serve and bless the people there, but we were overwhelmed at how they served and blessed us instead. The people have such a satisfaction in life and in God. They don't need specific songs or instruments to worship. They don't expect their church to look a certain way or even have four walls. Any heart that is open enough to step on a plane headed to Africa will come back changed touched and filled with life and goodness that cannot be put into words. Do not go to Africa unless you are ready to fall in love with the people, the country and with God whom you will experience.”

— Sarah Scott

My journey to Tanzania showed me the power and purpose of the body of Christ. It was encouraging to see how God has provided and cared for the people of Sambasha, and they in turn did the same for our team. I will never forget the smiles of Jesus I saw on each (of the people of Sambasha's) faces.”

God is accomplishing amazing things through OMEGA! Our team of 13 members was diverse in skills, interests, and personalities, yet through the love of Jesus Christ, and with guidance provided by our team leader, Susanna Hale, and OMEGA Project Manager, Paul Kaufman, we were able to overcome these differences and get focused on the mission-at-hand. Alongside the people of the community of Sambasha, Tanzania, we worked hard painting, building, cleaning, and organizing, of course, but were also able to spend time interacting with the children and adults who live there. Together we enjoyed playing games, singing, dancing, laughing, worshiping, praying, and just plain visiting. A true friendship developed between the team members, the beautiful people of Sambasha, and many other individuals we came into contact on a daily basis. In the beginning, many came to the work site because they were curious, but they were soon drawn into the spirit and became as determined as our team to get as much of the work completed as possible in the time we had together. Though few of the Africans spoke English, and we Americans spoke little or no Swahili, communication was not a problem. After all, we were created by the same Lord, in His image, so our similarities seemed more important than our differences. In fact, we all had more than one laugh about the team members’ attempts to speak Swahili with a pronounced Texas accent!

The OMEGA team was entranced in heart, mind, and soul by this incredible land and its’ people. Any pre-conceived notion that we were there to ‘help’ these people soon disappeared. We realized how vastly different their culture is by Western standards. Even though they have ‘nothing’, the Holy Spirit is alive and well amongst them. They see themselves as truly ‘rich’ with God’s blessings and because of that belief, they are unbelievably happy!

From start to finish, my experience with OMEGA, its’ leaders, and the recipients of our mission work, was so positive that it will have a permanent influence on my life and my faith journey. I will forever remember the kindness and gratitude of the people of Tanzania - their smiles, their way of worshiping through music and dance, their hard work with us side-by-side, their graciousness and generosity. These memories, and so much more, will hold a special place in my heart all my days. May God continue to bless Tanzania and its’ people, future OMEGA teams and the positive work they hope to accomplish.”

While working in Tanzania I met a little girl named Selena. She was around 8-11 years old and came from a family belonging to the Massai Tribe. Her father had 7 wives and many children. Her home was the most depressing, filthy place our team had visited. The women in her mud hut looked tired and hollow of soul. Susanna and I were holding Selena’s hand as we walked back to the area where we camped the night before. As Selena was about to go she looked at me and the Holy Spirit told me to tell her that Jesus (Yesu) loved her. I repeated it to her several times in Swahili. I’ll never forget the look in her eyes. She turned to go and then came back to me. Again the Spirit told me to pray a blessing over her. I prayed that she would become a mighty woman of God and that she would lead others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in the place where God had planted her. I do not remember all I said to her but her eyes seemed to tell me that she understood. I have never had an experience like that in my life and I may never again. But, I know that she is where God wants her and I am where God wants me. I had asked God to allow me to share Jesus with at least one person while I was in Africa and He answered my prayer. My mission trip was more than I could have ever envisioned. I’m ready to go back.”
